This has been on my to do list for a long time now, found this poster and it has inspired me to take a look at recreating it, well to a degree anyway.

This poster has some brushes and other things including a wide variety of colors all of which I think make it too "busy looking" so when I re-create it all that will change.

First thing is to locate the images it was made from:

The second image will be used in the background It's not the same one that is in the poster I know but I like it better, so will be going with that.

There is some hand written text in the background so first order of business is to get the base background going, I'll be keeping the text layer in a manageable state ie don't want to merge it to the background as it will no doubt be in the way and will need to be lightened or removed entirely from some areas so want to keep it mask-able.

Now for the rough placements not concerned with colors yet this is just about placement and blending for now.

Now for the big transformation  

First the clean up and get rid of some color especially the green as it will end up too dark otherwise.

Then we can add the adjustment layers to set the final colors and add the highlight layers.

Working on some titles and texts now most of the bottom front will be the title in a dark brown shade.

For the most part I've never really been into romance movies. I'm more into action movies. However, I love Pride and Prejudice. Think I've seen every version made.    My favorite version still remains the 1995 Mini-Series from BBC (starring Colin Firth). However, The 2005 version is very good too.  

Anyhoo, I guess I'm getting a bit off topic. You know how my mind tends to wander.  

It looks good so far. I will be eagerly watching this wip. Uh-huh. That's right! I've got my eyes on you.  

Can't wait to see what you come up with for this wonderful film. So hurry up, you.

I'm a romantic so I like romance movies/covers.....but only dramas not romcoms

I like the kind of flourish look for this type of period film, not too fancy but not too plain either.

Feels pretty done to me.

Now to figure out a back layout, thinking simple, I like simple, would like to use the mansion maybe as a divider will toy with it and see where it might fit in.

Thanks, think this will be the path, no main image on the back just the house and then character shots down the left side, I'mn going with five, there are a lot of stars in this film but I think five will cover it, after browsing over the images I'm going with head shots picking those out now while I'm doing the legals at the bottom...

I like the layout for the character shots. Wish I'd thought of that before.  

It's amazing how you can put together such a quality cover so quickly. It would have taken me days (if not weeks) to get this far.

Actually Wys I've been thinking about this for a couple of years now, my WIP folder is packed with unfinished and in some cases upstarted items, some are several years old actually there were in fact several different front images that I toyed with and other things that did not work for this cover, this was the first one that caused a possible outcome to pop into my mind.

I have to have a pretty clear image of "how it will 'be' in my mind" or it just never really works out winging it because I grow bored with too many changes or do overs very quickly.

Here was one partially finished front image that was cast out, I just found it too something... umm too dark maybe or perhaps wrong colors, I don't know it just didn't suit me, I don't keep very much like this as most usually the discards get deleted but for some reason this one survived, lol.

Thanks guys, added the Synopsis and a Tagline will stick the features in the open space there but I'm working on the stills at this point have decided on the five it will be now.

Now to get these fellas matched up

I guess to a degree it's all winging it lol, I was referring more to a overall design concept or direction, the details always take lot's of trial and error I'm good with that so long as the rest is working.

Think I tried 20 different fonts on the synopsis here in different color shades and weights not to mention spacing's and sizes.

No, no. I meant I literally wing it most of the time. I do more requests then anything. Seeing as so many of the requests are for covers I would most likely not make on a normal basis - I tend to lack inspiration and concept ideas. So when I start working on a cover it's literally like a blank canvas. Most of the time I have absolutely no idea what it's going to end up like because I don't start with a concept idea.  

Though, there are exceptions to that. My who framed Roger Rabbit and Night of the Living Dead covers I actually found some inspiration, and had a concept before I started it. Then again, those weren't requests. Those were covers I actually chose to do. lol.

Ahhhhhhhhh. I would have never guessed you were a romantic.  

It's strange - I love romance novels. I have a ton of them on my Kindle. For some reason, I just can't get in to most romance movies. With a few exceptions, of course. On the other hand I do enjoy an occasional romantic comedy. Weird huh.
