Sherlock (the BBC version)

Postby Nickaberdeen » Aug Sat 03, 2019 7:51 pm

I havent received a reply yet but I wanted to get started. So I will amend things later when I hear back but for now I will just see how i get on.

Right, so the request I am going to be doing is one for sherlock (the BBC version) as I am a big fan of the show. So this is what i have so far:

So i have started with the front. Cut out an image of the pair - i altered the colouring slightly to tie in with the background a bit - i have added part of the background (havent done the white section as of yet, I will come back to that at the end I think), have added the title, the cast and tagline. Not sure I am feeling the font but wanted to go with a different one for a change, I might try a few options to see which I like best, and I will possibly change the tagline for something like "the complete series" or something when I find out the specifics.

Same as usual feel free to suggest things that you think might make it better and I will give it a shot. The more I can learn as I go then hopefully the better the covers will get.  :D

Good start so far, have you tried the tag line at the bottom of the front?

Yeah sure, it’s not the greatest mock-up as done it on my iPad but something like this? You could also try increasing the title so it is large and goes behind cumberbatch’s head?

thats perfect. something like like this:

im not too sure about the changes, wasnt a big fan of the tagline on the front, might try it on the back. i like the larger title but had to change the colour as the blue got lost in the background. i tried it in blue with a white stroke but think this way round looks better, still not sure it works overlapping though.

i have also added some screenshots and some text on the back.

Hmmm, the larger title works but I’m not too sure about the outlined text. Have you tried adding another colour to the cover?

Obviously this is your cover so go with whatever you think works best :)

not sure about another colour but i definitely prefer the title this way compared to the previous one. i removed the tagline, i tried it on the back but wasnt a fan of it there either. i finished off the back but will have to wait for a reply before i can do anything with the spine. here is the cover as it stands:

Great look - Is it going to include "The Adominable Bride?"

i had it lower originally but it looked a bit strange being further away from the title.

So i have heard back and got the info i was waiting for (kind of) so i have updated the cover accordingly. i think i have done it right but if anyone notices anything i have missed let me know.

i have added "the complete collection" to the spine and adjusted the case to a 25mm one (i chose the viva elite one as i assume its the most likely one).

tmscrapbook wrote:Great look - Is it going to include "The Adominable Bride?"

it was a no on the abominable bride but if anyone else wants me to add that in so they can use it just let me know and i will.

so here is the cover:

i just have to make sure the dimensions are all correct and decide if i am going to put any images on the spine or not then i think it will be done unless anyone has any suggestions to make it better.  :D
