Last week we learned that Adventure Time will be ending after its ninth season in 2018. Today we have sad news for another animated fan favorite that will be coming to a close. FX's animated spy comedy Archer is set to end after season ten. We've still got three seasons to go, but each season will only have eight episodes.

The news comes from Archer creator Adam Reed, who also provides that voice of the character Ray Gillette. He shared the news on a recent episode of the Murmur podcast:

   "The plan is to end Archer after season 10. I don’t know that anybody has talked about that, but that is definitely my plan – to do 8, 9, and 10 and they’re gonna be each shorter seasons of just eight episodes – and then wind it up. … I was gonna end it after 8, but then I had sort of a brain explosion of a way that I could do three more seasons and really keep my interest up. So the three seasons that are coming up are gonna be pretty different from what has come before, and they’re gonna be different from each other."

It good to know that there's a plan in place to bring the series to the end, which tells me it's going to end on a high note. I'm sure it will leave fans wanting more, but I can't help but think that the creator will satisfy the needs of the fans.

I love that he plans on bringing something different to the series from anything that we've seen in the series before. I'm curious to see what that ends up being. It seems like the last three seasons are going to keep us on our toes.

Even though I don't much care for animation as a basic rule, I have seen several episodes of this and I rather liked it, it is more adult oriented thus may not appeal to everyone.

I've considered doing a series of covers for it, now that I know it will end at ten I might revisit that...

Because it's animated, I have absolutely no interest in this. Never did, never will. No offense, I just kinda left cartoons behind back in the '70s.

This is not your average cartoon and it is very, very adult oriented. Funny you mention the 70's 'cause this show does throw back references to that era all the time. In one story arc, Archer has a fascination with the movies White Lightning and Gator staring Burt Reynolds and then later in the series Burt Reynolds starts dating Archers mother and the story arc continues.

This is a few of the reasons I enjoy the series:
1. Multiple story arcs that can last a few episodes, a season or multiple seasons.
2. It's appropriately animated and watchable.
3. I like that characters are so over-the-top but still 'believable'.
4. The humour is at times weird and can be intellectual but then it can be so OMG.
5. The show pays homage to so many other shows and events. A good example of this is the double episode "Sea Tunt".

So yeah I'm a bit of a fan and do enjoy the series even though in general I'm not a cartoon person myself.

As for the humour and cartoon style there are a few YouTube videos entitled "Archer Funniest Moments" that give the uninitiated a glimpse into the world of Archer.   Enjoy, ... or not.

2getted's reason list is spot on with my thinking and is precisely why I was drawn in to the show, as I said in my first post it's without doubt adult oriented, not "kind of" but "full on", no holds barred, in your face.

So if a person is easily offended or put-off by crude humor then it might not be for them.

So right there. I had to vet the YouTube videos I attached for that very same reason.
A good example of that is "Archer Funniest Moments 3" - I had to sign in for age verification to watch.
I thought that if I attached that one it might get taken down.

That's why I thought it could be right up    alley given his humorist posts

I must apologize. I didn't even bother to watch the video 2getted provided. I'm really that uninterested, I don't even care about a sample. I truly hate cartoon or animated film in any flavor, period. I believe the last animated film I watched all the way through was Fritz the Cat, back in the early '70s. That was the reason for the '70s reference. I don't avoid them because of the adult orientation. I avoid them because they're animated, period. If I want to watch something in your face adult oriented, I have an entire Internet of pr0n I can watch & appreciate far more than any animation.

I hope I've clarified my point?

I have never heard of that series or maybe I saw it at a certain time and didn't pay attention because like Fog, I'm not big on animation.

On the other hand, I would love to see CT's talent on this one (the covers that is, lol).

I actually prefer Archer to the Simpsons which I stopped watching ages ago. I think Archer is amazing.

I have a theory as to why this upcoming season seems to be set in the past.

It's based on the way the last seasons' cliffhanger ended which ATT I thought implied that the series was over and the more obvious fact of this new seasons' title.
