I got the chance to see Impractical Jokers: The Movie over the weekend in its limited opening weekend release. The theater I saw it in was the only one playing the movie within an hour of me, and when I bought the tickets, I could see the showings selling out and more shows being added as I found my seats. It was a packed house, which is really the best way to watch a movie like this, with other fans who are having a great time.
The movie stars the guys from Impractical Jokers the series, Brian “Q” Quinn, Joe Gatto, James “Murr” Murray, and Sal Vulcano, along with Paula Abdul and a few familiar faces that you’ll recognize as friends of the show. The movie starts out in a flashback telling the story of the guys in 1992, when they have a crazy night and make some pretty bad decisions at a Paula Abdul concert that haunt them the rest of their lives.
Then in present day, they are faced with a ticket to redeem themselves, or three tickets, anyway, and they set off on a road trip to see which three will get to relive that fateful night and which Joker will become the ultimate loser.
I don’t want to give anything away, because these were some of the best pranks the guys have ever done, and the element of surprise was much of the fun. The road setting was perfect, because you never really knew what to expect. Some of the built-in storyline was a little cheesy, but it didn’t matter because the guys really sold it and made sure you knew they weren’t taking it too seriously. But the pranks held up, and my husband and I laughed until we cried. It was a great movie, and I hope they make more in the future.
