So I figured while I was waiting to complete the sherlock cover I would have a look for the next one. I had a look through the requests again but none of them really jumped out at me. So I ended looking through artwork that was available and found a poster for it chapter 2 that i really liked, dont get me wrong I wasnt really a fan of the remake as i liked the original but figured I'd give it a shot.

As always feel free to chip in with any suggestions

i have just added the artwork and title so far but here is what i have so far:

i love doing covers for tv shows, in fact i am currently doing one...for sherlock  

i have added the cast names, changed the title to make it a little clearer and added some text (to be fair, it looked much better in my head), i am not too sure if i'll keep the text at the moment but maybe someone who is good with fonts/text could tell me where i am going wrong as i believe it should work.

Your title treatment looks better. Cast names looks good also. The tagline, not so much. I can't help you with the fonts but you might want to put less space between each lines? And maybe not as many words on each lines? Hope I make sense.

you do make sense. the way i had it in my head was about three lines roughly in order to fill the balloon but will come back to that later. i have tried something else for now, not 100% about the wording or look as it is but i will keep thinking as i work through the rest.

i have added a spine (might add some images to it later) and added the legals and small image on the back. its starting to come together now.

Yes, much better. I don't think you really need more writing in front. Just my opinion of course. Love what you have done with the back so far!

i have changed the size and positioning of the title, just struggling a little with the back at the moment but it will be on the next update.

Tracking is a fixed space between all characters (typically), kerning is variable space between two characters.

Example Text

There are times like in Titles where two characters might need more or less space between them than others, in which case you use kerning to adjust that, but most times you just want to evenly space all characters and for that you use tracking.

Note: Tracking can be set for the entire text block, or by paragraph, or by line, or by word, or by characters, but usually tracking is used for the entire text block.

Kerning Is Selective Letterspacing (font function or should be)

Kerning is the adjustment of space between pairs of letters. Some pairs of letters create awkward spaces. Kerning adds or subtracts space between letters to create visually appealing and readable text. Kerning information for many commonly kerned character pairs is built into most quality fonts.

Tracking Is Overall Letterspacing

Tracking differs from kerning in that tracking is the adjustment of space for groups of letters and entire blocks of text. Use tracking to change the overall appearance and readability of the text, making it more open and airy or denser.

i have edited the the title size and amended the the top text on the front cover. i have also added screenshots and tweaked the legal text a little.

i am quite happy with the cover as it is here (possibly other than the wording of "terrifying novel" on the front):

heres where it gets a little tricky...i then did a little more for the back, i added a banner and image on the back. i found out last night that the movie isnt even in the cinemas yet so having a banner for special features is probably not going to work and the remaining text might be a little difficult until the movie is released but possibly doable.

the main problem i am having is that i wanted to do something a bit different on the back (i havent got something specific in mind), i just didnt want to go down the same route i usually go so it might take me a little while to come up with something. if anyone has a take on how they would go about it id love to hear it.

First of all, thank you CT for explaining the difference between Kerning and Tracking. If someone can do it, it’s you. I’ve used Tracking quite a bit (like Nick, not knowing that is was called that, lol) but I’ve never used Kerning because I didn’t really know what it did. Now that I do, I will use it.

Now for your cover Nick, I like your new updates. The banner would certainly add something nice at the back, so if you want to keep it, you might want to add a quote of a movie critic from a known publisher or something like it inside instead of special features. Just an idea. Keep going, it’s coming along very nicely!

unfortunately there isnt any of them either yet. the only critic quote i have seen was from japan and it was more of a preview of where the second one might go and i didnt want to read too much to avoid spoilers. but it was definitely worth a shot.

i had that idea too, originally i did look into it but i couldnt get it to work as i couldnt get the balloons close enough to match the others. not sure about the smoke, it would definitely have worked if i had used one of the posters that had the smoke but not sure it would work with the one i chose.

i had a little play around with it and to try and make up for the lack of info i added some more screenshots and the tagline. now if i can get a critic quote (or maybe two) it might be enough to fill the back. i also went with a different image and tweaked the legals colour so it wasnt so overpowering.

i think it might work a little better this way but let me know what you think:

I'm not sure about the extra images on top. It might be too much no? May I suggest a longer synopsis to compliment the void? I found this one if interested:

"The sequel to 2017's adaptation of the Stephen King thriller sees the Losers' Club grown into adulthood. For many of them, the horror of their encounter with Pennywise the Clown is a half-buried childhood memory. But Pennywise still lurks beneath the town of Derry, and he's beginning to stir again. I'm sure there are other synopsis out there that are better or that you would prefer. Now obviously, the one you have now is great if you can find something else to fill in the void. Again, just a suggestion. Like you, it looks fine in my head with a longer synopsis, but who knows, lol

to be honest i wasnt feeling it either. the problem i had was that i wasnt really feeling the image going all the way to the top (wanted it a little smaller) but it has a flat finish otherwise i would have just left a gap but i will see what i can do.

and i will most definitely use that synopsis you found, the one i had was the longest i could find. thank you.
