Jurassic Park star Laura Dern is currently making waves on HBO's Big Little Lies, but she'll soon be a part of a different limited series that's far more mysterious. Dern is one of the new members of the incredibly eclectic cast of David Lynch's Twin Peaks revival, and in an interview with Vanity Fair (via Uproxx), she had some high praise for what Lynch has done with the new episodes:

   “It’s brave and fiery and deep, poignant and hilarious...You must always watch when David Lynch makes anything. I believe it’s what keeps art going. It should be a prerequisite.”

I'm watching the original Twin Peaks for the first time right now in preparation for the new episodes, and man, it's such a weird show. I'm about eight episodes into season two, and after every episode concludes, I find myself baffled that this was on a major TV network during prime time in the 1990s. People must have been losing their minds at the sheer strangeness of it. But I'm with Dern on this one: Lynch may be a bizarre filmmaker, but he's definitely a guy who always creates compelling material — even if I can't quite wrap my head around all of it sometimes.

Twin Peaks returns on Showtime on May 21, 2017 at 9pm.

I never could get into that series & have no interest in its revival. I'm sure it has appeal for people who spend most of their time in straight-jackets, but I just don't get the appeal.

I've never been real impressed with anything that Lynch has done.  With two exceptions. Dune and Wild at Heart.  Those were very good.

Lynch and Dune, now there's a controversial topic. I also enjoyed Blue Velvet as another different and interesting film of his. It can be refreshing to have to think about what you're watching instead of just sitting back and have everything explained neatly for you and then usually in the last 10 to 15 minutes.

I got more out of watching the original Twin Peaks now than when it first came out. I'll watch the new series to see how it compares to the original series and to see what direction Lynch takes now.

Twin Peaks!!!!! man, David Lynch is a genius. No one does films like him. He said he's not making anymore films but if he could do more television that'd be awesome. Twin Peaks is a crowning achievement and it is a crime if Lynch doesn't have the opportunity to do more stuff. He's a genius in a world of crap like marvel and whatever the hell brainless blockbuster is premiering every single week. Look at the premieres: every single week only crap. I haven't been to the movies in dog's age and I don't intend to if it's not something worthy.

I'd go see a David Lynch joint in a heartbeat.
